Dr. Mike Guerini (BS, MS, PhD)
- WELCOME. As a a horseman and scientist from Gilroy California, I enjoy working with equines of all breeds and disciplines. I have the honor to work with and raise Quarter Horses and I am fortunate to get to work with Thoroughbreds, a variety of Gaited horses, Morgans, Arabs, Paint Horses, Andalusians, a few draft crosses ...and the list of breeds goes on with each one bringing me new and exciting learning opportunities.
- I have a PhD in veterinary molecular biology (not a veterinary degree) and continue to learn and study and evaluate the posture and movement and balance of the horse and rider. My work focuses on using evidenced based methods for the benefit of Equine and Rider.
- I focus on helping horses and riders and trainers/coaches/body workers with evidenced based horsemanship measurements so that the entire team can improve and measure the small changes towards the ultimate improvement goal. My personal focus in on Balance of Horse and Rider, Ground Work, Hoof Health, and Thermography.
Specializing in:
* Evidenced Based Horsemanship * Thermography
* Balanced Horse - Balanced Rider
- As a scientist, I use Evidenced Based Horsemanship to help each equestrian team (rider, horse and trainer/coach and Body worker) understand what he/she is feeling and how the horse is developing. In the evidenced based horsemanship approach, I use video, horse movement sensors, thermography, and sensors to help riders adjust her/his balance. I currently use the CoreX Equine, Flir E40 Thermography Camera, Coach's Eye, Equisense Motion, Equ La VERT, and Centaur rein sensors. In my near future I shall be adding Equine Heart rate monitors and the Epona Cam for hooves.
- Each year I continue my education through courses, riding, auditing and studying the horse. Since 2002, I have ridden (r) with or audited (a) a number of excellent horsewomen and horsemen including --- Saundra O'Reilly (r, mentor), Carolin Moldenhauer - ST training (a), Laurel von Bruun (a), Susan Harris (a), Lindsey Hassell (r and a), Klaus Schoneich (a), Donna Snyder-Smith (a), Felice Rose (a), Gerd Heuschmann (a), Jason Canton (a), Charles Wilhelm (r and a), John St. Ryan (r and a), Patrick King (r and a), George Morris (a), Ian Francis (r), Susan Tomasini (r), Chris Cox (r), Richard Shrake (r), and Jack Brainard for Western Dressage (r).
- I have also had the honor of co-teaching clinics and lessons with Connie Sparks (yearly event), Patrick King, Felice Rose, and Carolene M Miller.
- I have helped equines and equestrians achieve a number of show pen accomplishments:
- Coached Western dressage riders to improve scores from the low 50's to the high 70's.
- Starting colts such as SHES GETTIN BUSY who earned an AQHA Open ROM in Roping.
- Coaching amateur rider Christine Ramsey with BARTENDER NIC to secure a top 10 placement in the rookie Ranch Riding class at the AQHA Level 1 Region show in 2016 and earn an AQHA Amateur ROM in Ranch Riding, Reserve Champion Ranch Versatility for Cinch Up productions and top 4 placing in the Charles Wilhelm Super Horse Competition.
- Coaching amateur rider Tina Gabel with Cutter Chex N Half in Cowhorse competitions (AQHA and San Benito Saddle Horse Show).
- Training La Chees Moonshadow for roping and All Around Performance win (San Benito County Fair).
- My personal show career includes team roping, numerous schooling shows, CSHA shows, and Cowboy Dressage (scores in the 60 to 65% range)
- With my friend Linda Keene, I co-invented the Equine Hydro-T in the late 1990's.
- I am a Supporting Member of the International Society for Equitation Science and General Member of the Equine Science Society and a Lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
